CIVIL SERVIECE EXAMINATION FIRST STEPS

The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) among others. Also simply referred as UPSC examination[1]. It is conducted in three phases - a preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II also popularly known as Civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT), and a main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type, in which two papers are qualifying and only marks of seven paper are counted followed by a personality test.
Eligibility

Eligibility for the examination is as follows
Nationality
Education
All candidates must have as a minimum one of the following educational qualifications:
  • A degree from a Central, State or a Deemed university
  • A degree received through correspondence or distance education
  • A degree from an open university
  • A qualification recognized by the Government of India as being equivalent to one of the above
The following candidates are also eligible, but must submit proof of their eligibility from a competent authority at their institute/university at the time of the main examination, failing which they will not be allowed to attend the exam
  • Candidates who have appeared in an examination, the passing of which would render them educationally qualified enough to satisfy one of the above points
  • Candidates who have passed the final exam of the MBBS degree but have not yet completed an internship.
  • Candidates who have passed the final exam of ICAI, ICSI and ICWAI.
  • A degree from a private university.
  • A degree from any foreign university recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
Age
The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years (for the General category candidate) on August 1 of the year of examination. Prescribed age limits vary with respect to caste reservations.
Number of attempts
The number of times a candidate may attempt the exam is limited as follows:
  • General category candidates = 6.
  • OBC category candidates = 9.
  • SC/ST candidates = unlimited attempts till 37 years of age.
Appearing to attempt one of the papers in the preliminary examination is counted as an attempt, including disqualification/ cancellation of candidature. However, applying to sit the exam but failing to attend is not counted as an attempt.

NTSE 2019

NTSE 2019 Application Form, Eligibility, Exam Dates, Syllabus


NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) 2019 is a National Level Examination conducted by NCERT (National Council of Education Research and Training) to provide the scholarship to the deserving candidates. This exam is for secondary school level to identify and recognize students with high intellect and skills. The examination is conducted every year at 2 levels: Stage 1 (State level) and Stage 2 (National level).

  • Registration process will begin from Second week of September 2018.
  • NTSE stage 1, exam will be held on November 03 and 04, 2018 and stage 2, exam will be conducted on May 12, 2019.
  • The papers are conducted through offline mode only and have objective type questions only.
  • For both stages, exam is divided into two parts i.e. Mental Ability Test (MAT), and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
              Every year around 1,200,000 to 1,400,000 students appear for the examination, while only 5000 students are selected for stage 2. Out of these 5000 students only 1000 candidates are selected for the scholarship.
Scholarship: one thousand scholarships are awarded for different stages of education as follows:
  • Scholarship of Rs.1250/- per month for Class-XI to XII.
  • Scholarship of Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Post-graduates.
  • Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.

NTSE 2019 Eligibility

There are certain criteria laid out by CBSE that one should keep in mind before applying for the exam. NTSE Eligibility Criteria for each stage differs. The detailed criteria are provided below.

NTSE Eligibility Criteria (Stage 1)

  • Candidates must be an Indian national.
  • Class X students can also apply for Stage 1.
  • A minimum of 60% marks Class IX is required. SC, ST and PH candidates will need 55% marks in Class IX.
  • Candidate must be studying in a recognized school in their respective State or Union Territory.
  • Those who are registered in Open Distance Learning (ODL) program will also be considered eligible if they are below 18 years of age (as on July 1, 2018) and are not employed when they appear for Class X exam.

NTSE Eligibility Criteria (Stage 2)

  • Candidates will need 80% marks or above in the State level exam, to be considered eligible.
  • Every student who secures the minimum required marks in Stage II will be eligible for the scholarship program.

NTSE Reservation Criteria

  1. 15% for students belonging to SC category.
  2. 7.5% for students belonging to ST category.
  3. 4%for Physically Challenged group of students, with benchmark disabilities of which – 1% each will be reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities under clauses –
  • Blindness and low vision
  • Deaf and hard of hearing
  • Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy.
  1. 1% for persons with benchmark disabilities under clauses
  • Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness.
  • Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses in the posts identified for each disabilities. 

NTSE 2019 Application Form

Candidates can fill application form through both the online and offline modes. Application form will be distributed separately by different states. Last date of application submission also varies from state to state.
       Some general guidelines regarding the form filling process are as discussed below.
  • If downloading, then while taking the printout use legal 8.5” * 14” size paper.
  • Application form available online or with State/ UT liaison officer is only applicable for Stage 1 exam.
  • Candidates have to pay the application fee as prescribed by their respective State/UT.
  • While filling NTSE 2019 Application Form candidates or the principle have to leave the 4-digit center code blank, this has to be filled by the liaison officer or concerned district officer or center superintendent. 

How to fill NTSE Form?


Indian Students
  1. Candidates must download the application form available on the official NCERT website.
  2. After filling in all fields, the applicant must get the form signed by the principal of his school.
  3. Then the application form must be submitted to the State Liaison Officer before the last date of submission.

Indian Students Studying Abroad

  1. Such candidates can directly apply for Stage 2 of NTSE exam.
  2. The application form will have to be downloaded from the website.
  3. The duly filled in application must be sent with a photocopy of the mark sheet of the previous exam to the following address:

New Delhi 110016.

NTSE 2019 Admit Card

The admit card for NTSE will be made available by the authorities according to the official schedule. It will contain important information such as candidate’s name, candidate’s roll number, exam date and timing as well as exam center address.
The steps to obtain admit card are explained below:
  1. NTSE admit cards for Stage 1 will be sent by post to candidate’s address, as specified in the application form.
  2. In case the admit card is not received, candidates can visit the office of Chief Superintendent to obtain their hall ticket.
  3. The admit card for NTSE Stage 2 will be available on the official NCERT website a week before the date of the exam.
  4. Candidates must download their respective hall tickets from the website.

Documents to carry along with NTSE Admit Card

Carrying only the admit card on the day of the exam is not enough. Entry inside the exam center will not be granted if the student fails to produce his photo ID card. A candidate must carry any one of the below documents:

  • Valid photo ID in original and a photocopy of the same
  • Any one of these will be accepted for Photo Identification purposes:

NTSE 2019 Exam Centers

  • NTSE 2019 examination is conducted in various states.
  • At the time of filling application form, students have to select the particular exam center.
  • Once the application form is successfully submitted students can check the name of examination center on the admit card.

NTSE 2019 Exam Pattern

The exam is conducted in two stages i.e. Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 examination is conducted at state level by the state authorities. Stage 2 examination is conducted at all other states and union territories. The paper is available in both the Hindi and English medium. Students need to select any one language from both the languages. The paper is divided into two sections i.e.  Mental Ability Test (MAT), and Scholastic Ability Test (SAT).
  • The examination is conducted through the offline mode only.
  • The paper is comprised of Objective type multiple choice questions.
  • For every correct answer, 1 mark will be given and there is no negative marking at stage 1 and stage 2.
  • Reserved category candidates have to secure 32% marks in each year to qualify the test, whereas general category candidates have to secure 40% marks to qualify the test.

NTSE 2019 Result

  • Those students who have successfully qualified the test are eligible for scholarship.
  • Students will be selected for the scholarship on the basis of the final merit list.
  • Once the stage 2 result will be announced, the final merit list will be prepared accordingly.
  • The merit list will published on the website. It will not be sent through post.
  • To check the examination result, students can visit the official website of NCERT i.e. www.ncert.nic.in.
  • Students have to enter their Registration number and Date of Birth to check the result.
  • The result will be available in PDF file format.
